Luna Nueva, Costa Rica: Our Commitment to Healing People and the Planet

NewMark™ is committed to supporting and protecting the environment, and our 160+ acre Costa Rican farm is a world model for organic sustainable farming in the rain forest. Under the direction of biodynamic farming expert Steven Farrell, we grow the world’s finest supply of blue-ring ginger and turmeric in the world. Biodynamic farming takes organic cultivation to a new level. Farrell explains, “We found that even though we were organic, our land was somehow lacking in vitality. That led us to study biodynamic farming practices, which has allowed us to enliven our soils. Our farm is a living organism with wild areas, flowing streams, ruminating creatures, and of course people whose eyes and hearts are open to the lessons of the lands.”

Farrell is now working with Rafael Ocampo, one of the premier ethnobotanists in Central America, and Dr. Michael Balick, one of the foremost ethnobotanists in the United States, to create a Sacred Seeds Sanctuary at Luna Nueva, a refuge for endangered medicinal botanicals of the neotropics.
